A sinus lift is an augmentation process that increases the amount of jaw in the upper jaw, where your molars and premolars sit. The purpose of a sinus lift is to increase the height of the bone for the placement of dental implants for tooth replacement.

Why is a sinus lift needed?

Lack of bone height: If you’ve been suffering from advanced gum disease, this may have reduced the amount of bone present.

Thin upper jawbone: Some patients are genetically disposed to have less jawbone structure in their upper jaw.

Low sinus position: The sinus can be positioned too close to the jawbone, leaving insufficient room for implants.

Your sinus lift surgery

The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic. An incision is made to expose the bone, and your dentist will carefully lift the sinus membrane upwards.
The grafting material is then placed in the area where the sinus has been raised. This grafting material is taken either from your own bone, bovine or porcine bone or is a synthetic piece of bone.

Frequently asked questions

How long do I have to wait after my sinus lift to have implants placed?

It can take up to 5 months for your jaw to heal after sinus lift bone regeneration.

However, the healing response differs from patient to patient.

Is the healing different if you have a sinus lift?

If you have an internal lift, the healing will be almost the same as if you had a normal implant.

With a formal sinus lift, the healing may take one or two days longer, and you may wish to avoid flying/diving for a couple of weeks following the surgery.

Are there different types of Sinus lifts?

Yes, there are two main types of sinus lifts.

An Internal or ‘mini’ sinus lift can be used when we are only a few millimetres short of height and need to place an implant. This can be done without a second incision.

The other type is a more traditional sinus lift described above, where the available height is even less. Both do not cause any more pain than having a normal implant.

The practice was clean and the reception staff were welcoming and professional.Dr Kemi was excellent throughout. He explained every step of the procedure which really put me at ease. I was extremely impressed by his professionalism and skill. The dental assistant working ( l am sorry l did not remember your name) with Dr Kemi was also incredibly kind and reassuring helping to calm my nerves throughout the appointment.The entire process was seamless. I was referred to this dentist for an extraction which I was not looking forward to as I've had some bad experiences in the past. I have angina and I arrived this morning anxious, but I needn't have been. The whole experience was absolutely the best from start to finish! The receptionists were very welcoming, the surroundings are very calm, bright and spotless, and the dentist was amazing, taking his time to explain everything and making sure I was calm before going ahead with the procedure. I can honestly say it was the best experience I have ever had with an extraction. I had an extraction of an upper back right tooth. The procedure itself was far from pleasant, but the dentist was good.I wasn’t given any pain relief afterwards and, despite having had a local anaesthetic, the pain was quite severe and I felt the need for immediate pain relief as soon as the ordeal was over. Unfortunately you are not given anything! I would have appreciated being told in advance to bring strong paracetamol and ibuprofen to take straight after, as nothing is provided.The journey home felt very long when you’re in that much pain.

This was my first time visiting Hazelwood after being referred for an extraction. The surgery is beautiful with such a welcoming feeling the minute you walk through the door. The team are equally as amazing. As someone with mobility disabilities they were so accommodating. I was left feeling completely comfortable. The procedure itself was completed in around 25 to 30 minutes when including numbing time. I felt no pain at all from the extraction just some light pressure as the tooth was eased out. My entire experience from having a tooth extracted was definitely a positive one.

I was referred to Dr Sachin Sheth for a root canal treatment and was very pleased with the experience.I was quite anxious because of how unpleasant the procedure was when I had one done 30 years ago but it turned out I didn’t need to be worried at all. I was referred to this practice by my dentist for a wisdom tooth extraction and whilst it’s not a pleasant procedure to go through I was really happy with the whole experience. I am a very anxious patient and have had poor experiences in the past with dentists. I don’t know the name of the dentist and assistant who treated me, I was in room 3 upstairs but they were both very kind, patient and made me feel as comfortable as possible. I really appreciated the cleanliness of the practice and being informed on what was happening throughout the procedure. They both also checked to see how I was doing throughout the appointment multiple times and offered to allow pause for a moment at anytime.

Was referred here for a tooth extraction. I normally find it a horrible experience and I felt so comfortable I didn't even notice that the broken tooth was out until the guy showed me, it took less than half hour, the only thing that hurt was the 3 injections. I was referred to Hazelwood Dental Practice by my own dentist for a wisdom tooth extraction. I waited around ten minutes after my appointment time before being called. The dentist was very good at her job. She explained what she was going to do and then did it. The procedure was pain free and everything went very smoothly. Once the local anaesthetic wore off a few hours later I felt some low-level pain. This was dealt with by a single dose of painkillers. The pain has not reoccurred today.All in all I was impressed by Hazelwood Dental Practice. If I lived locally I would try to get onto their patient list.

I was recently referred to the Hazelwood Dental Practice by my own dentist for a tooth extraction. I arrived and introduced myself. The kind staff at reception were very polite and welcomed me.I completed my consent form and waited in the sunshine for my appointment time to arrive. I was shortly called and made my way to treatment room No 3 on the first floor.I met my dentist and his pleasant assistant.A full and clear explanation of today's treatment was outlined.The process of the extraction was completed painlessly within 20 mins.An ongoing care package was then provided with brief but clear advice for my personal care.Before I left I complimented the dentist and his assistant for their professional, kind and very pleasant service.I then made my way out of the building but as I left I popped into reception to express my admiration for the excellent service because it really was first class.To finish i would like to add that this wonderful facility is fresh clean and very polished.Thank you 😊

Brilliant service - wasn’t waiting long, quick procedure, friendly staff and not that it matters but the interior is nice and stylish. The dentist did a great job, can’t believe how fast he worked without rushing, and he let me ask lots of questions. The nurse was very thorough in her explanations and made sure I was clear on the aftercare. Really happy with this experience, no complaints!

I was seen very promptly for a root canal and during when I felt a bit of discomfort I was offered more anaesthetics and felt fine after. I felt I was in and out very quick and the care taken with me helped me a lot. I never look forward to going to the dentist but this experience was a very positive one.

I went for a root canal treatment 3 hours ago at Hazelwood. I was very scared and have phobia Re injections. The doctor and the nurse were amazing. However, the injection really hurt and made me jump as it was so sudden. I hit the doctor's hand by accident, and the injection hurt even more. It was my fault. But she is heavy-handed. She was very good and thorough with what she was doing. I would recommend this practice, and the doctor, but hopefully I will not need them, for another 30, 40 years. They provide some free parking spaces, which is good because it's on a pay n' display road.The reception team are welcoming and helpful.My treatment was carried out by Dr Sheth, who was professional, yet reassuring and kind. I go to Hazelwood Dental Practice for my regular hygienist appointments. The staff are friendly and professional.The service I receive is second to none. The premises are clean and tidy. I also like the music in reception and the opportunity to watch the TV which is on the ceiling during my appointments. That is a great distraction!The Principal Dentist who carries out my appointment gives great advice and guidance. My questions and concerns are always answered.

From entering this dental practice, it was a 5 star to me, clean, clear and nicely decorated. Very kind and welcoming staff at the reception, spacious waiting area. Had to use stairs to get to the surgery room but that was OK for me. While attending to me, the dentist and the assistant were so kind and gentle with me, having my note on fear before the appointment helped them and calmed be too because they made me feel like they care and not just work. Throughout my stay, they kept me informed, checked on me. Although I don't like new people working on me but I must say the experience was a good one, and explained the after care too. ***** 5 star.Also they have parking for up to 3 cars, but I didnt notice so was driving up and down. There is a sign.

Very well looked after. I was really nervous but very soon this subsided. The receptionists were so welcoming, Dr Asaria put me at easy immediately and explained everything thoroughly. Lastly, I have to thank the dental nurses. Often forgotten, but they are so key to calm nerves. They treated me as a friend. As good as going to the dentist can be, this was great.

I had tooth pain and managed to get a last min cancellation with Dr Zainab... btw she's amazing. My tooth ache was unexplainable after taking 2 different types of xrays she gave me a special toothpaste and some advise of things to do for a week. She's booked me in next week to review it and has a plan in action if I'm still in pain. Her patience is amazing and can I also add her Nurse Christina is lovely... she was helping me through my gag reflex. Never have I had so much fun at the dentist whilst in pain. Thanks for being my 3rd (and last) ever dentist since childhood.Ps. The Netflix on the ceiling was a bonus.

Once you decide to spend money on implants, go to an expert. Dr Hussein Asaria is that expert. Every stage was undertaken with the utmost professionalism, and it is very obvious that he knows this subject inside out. He uses advanced computer graphics to demonstrate to clients what will be, and has been done. The fact that he can describe exactly what will happen, and how you will feel after each stage of the procedure, provides immense confidence.

From the get go, everyone was so kind and and welcoming When it came to booking the appointment, the team were very understanding when I explained what had happened previously, they assured me that the dentist would ensure the same thing would not happen.Dr Femi Oluteye and Nurse Ursula were absolute stars from the get go. Dr Sachin is absolutely brilliant!!!I am petrified of Dentists due to past experiences, but I received a very professional service from beginning to end from Dr Sachin. I just had to leave a review after my 1st appointment at the clinic. I had my first implant with Dr Hussein Asaria last week. I was so scared I’ve been putting it off for years however it was such a pleasant experience. Dr Asaria was very reassuring and confident they’d be minimal discomfort and he was right. I felt no pain during and haven’t needed to take a single painkiller since, no swelling, no soreness - nothing! A true professional. I was a nervous patient and was worried about having my tooth taken out. Dr Femi and his nurse were so amazing. I had a denture to be fitted and he has done that. Dear Hazelwood Dental Practice, just to let you know that Femi and Christina did a fantastic job on my mother removing 3 front teeth. She had a bit of pain with the injections, but apart from that there was no pain with the removal of the teeth and no pain thereafter.
