Implant-retained dentures are designed to be functional for many years.
With good care, there’s no reason why your implants can’t last a lifetime. However, your dentures are likely to need replacing after 5-10 years.
To maximise your dentures’ lifespan, make sure you:
- Visit the dentist and hygienist for check-ups and routine cleanings.
- Adopt a good at-home oral care routine (implants can still sustain gum disease!).
- Do not smoke (this is one of the biggest reasons why implants fail, as it cuts off the vital blood supply to the gums).
Implants have a success rate of over 90 – 98.9% between 15 and 5 years (respectively).
